Sure, AVRs are more complicated to hook up than an all-in-one soundbar, and receiver-based systems virtually scream for a universal remote or at least a kick-ass control app to ease day-to-day operation. You need to run all those cables, too. But what you get in return for spreading out your carefully selected speakers and installing a bona fide, hard-core audio amplifier at the heart of your system can be summed up in one word: The surround processor section decodes the multichannel digital audio bitstream signals from discs, broadcasts, or Internet video streams—say a Dolby Digital or DTS soundtrack—and directs the appropriate sound to each speaker.

Matrix-surround signals encoded onto stereo analog tracks will also be decoded here.

Nov 15,  · Well I decided to hook it up to the L and R front speaker output of my receiver to the L and R inputs. Well, that changed everything. This sub came to life.

Connecting 8 pairs of speakers to 1 receiver Hook it up according to Tony’s directions and you won’t fry your amp, but you would in a parallel connection. Hooking up 8 speakers in series though would quickly clip your amp because of the 8X voltages it would be required to output. Are you using all 8 speakers all of the time? It looks like your receiver is rated at watts into 8 ohms continuously.

Your current speakers are rated to take all of this power, so to get max performance out of them you would have to disconnect the other 6. From the sounds of things though you’re not looking for insane levels, and assuming you hook them up properly as in an 8 way switch comperable to the one you have now you could reasonably expect 5 clean watts per speaker. If the speaker has an effeciency of 90db, you’d get db output per speaker, which is pretty respectable.

If you can’t find a bigger switch and you want to run all of them all of the time, there is a way to hook them up safely, though a bit more involved. Are all of the speakers 8 ohms? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 signatures.

Second, try to be a bit more descriptive about what you have an what your problem is. What kind of surround sound system do you have? What kind of speakers are you trying to hook up to it? If you get sound out of one of the speakers but not the other i would say something is wired incorrectly or not powered on. The speakers are wired correctly. When I wired the way you suggested sound only comes out of one speaker device which the wires around same thing happens.

There may be some some sound coming out but you can barely hear it.

That’s because they don’t understand each other. Yep, not only do most audiophiles not understand subwoofers very well, subwoofers generally aren’t built with the needs of audiophiles in mind. It’s a sad situation. Most audiophiles don’t use subs, so they’re missing out on great bass. Obviously, if you’re using stand-mounted speakers without a sub, you’re not getting deep bass.

In the past, speakers were designed to reproduce bass frequencies, so the need for seperate subwoofers were non-existant. When the size of speakers began shrinking, the need for subwoofers to handle bass increased. In learning The ‘Bassics’ of Bass Management , you’ll discover that receivers figure out what speakers should get bass digitally, and send the appropriate bass information to a powered subwoofer using a line-level connection. But before receivers were digital, bass management had to be handled by the subwoofer using a age-old technology.

Subwoofers have undergone some serious change in the past decade. Intitially, most subwoofers were passive. A passive subwoofer does not have its own amplifier built in, and is therefore connected with speaker wire between the front or all speakers. What makes it more confusing is that even newer powered subwoofers can be connected passively, which means that it is still connected in the same manner as a passive sub.

This method of subwoofer hook-up is very common for those that use Bose speaker systems, or anyone with a passive subwoofer. In the Receiver The receiver’s “yes” or “no” setting for the subwoofer only applies if you own a powered subwoofer connected to the receiver using a line level RCA style cord. When set to “yes” all redirected bass is output through a line level “sub-out” connection on the back of the receiver, thus removing the bass information from the amplified speaker line.

Receivers Introduction Throughout my life as a home theater enthusiast and reviewer, I have always preferred products that offer high value. I have generally interpreted that to mean the products are simple to set up and operate. Good sound quality is the main point, after all. I believed that anything which does not directly contribute to the primary objective was irrelevant, unnecessarily costly and would certainly degrade performance right?

This assessment appeared to be especially germane when considering amplifiers and pre amps. But, with modern product design enhancements, digital control technologies and efficient manufacturing and shipping, all that is changing. Now a high-value product can have tons of flexibility and features without sacrificing sound quality to any appreciable extent. So before me on this occasion is this modern surround sound receiver, the Integra DTR This means that the amplifier section should suffice to play at reference levels in home theaters of up to 2, cubic feet with a 10 — 12 foot viewing distance from the screen.

More on this later. Integra has maintained a similar styling aesthetic for their products throughout their year history. And it is a very nice aesthetic, with a black, brushed aluminum faceplate.

Sub hook-up to “old” 2 channel stereo receiver?

A stereo system is a central part of most home theaters. Purists gush about the sound they can get from their stereo receivers and speakers. Consistent advancements in the music industry have made it possible to connect other playback devices besides just a CD player. MP3 players have established themselves as an especially practical option.

Many AV receivers can handle two subwoofers, which when placed correctly this can give a more even bass effect in greater listening positions instead of “the sweet spot” If you have two sub-out ports on you AV receiver and an LFE port on each of your subwoofers, simply connect a subwoofer cable to each of the sub-out ports and LFE ports.

Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. There is no good way to do it. You’re planning to connect your subs where you should be connecting your full range speakers and you should not parallel the subwoofers with the full range speakers. The crossover itself will be inefficient and bulky because it will be operating at low frequency. You’re going to be better off getting rid of the 2-ch receiver unless it has a built in active crossover and a preamp output for a subwoofer.

Very few 2-ch receivers have this. Alternatively if your receiver has preamp output for the main speakers then you can still use it along with an external active crossover. If the receiver has preamp loops you can even still use its onboard amplifiers. If it does not have loops then you have to use external amplifiers for both the subwoofers and the main speakers.
